Impact AIT for Release 11.8
Visual Basic and VB.NET

Impact AIT for Visual Basic and VB.NET

AIT stands for Advanced Integration Technology. It is a toolkit designed for Impact machine vision integrators who are also Visual Basic programmers. Using AIT, machine vision integrators can deploy Impact applications using VB.NET or Visual Basic 6.0 — and transfer data and files between Impact and Visual Basic applications.
Impact AIT will run on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 operating systems. (32-bit systems only)

NOTE: If you received a Java install error while installing this version of AIT, you should uninstall any previous version of Java Runtime and AIT, then reinstall this version of AIT. Use the Control Panel "Add or Remove Programs" option.

NOTE: If you receive a "Connection Exception" error when you try to connect to a device from Embedded CPM, follow the steps below.

1.     Open the Windows Control Panel, then open the Java control panel.

2.     Click the Java tab.

3.     In the Java Applet Runtime Setting area, click the View button.

4.     Locate JRE version 1.6.0_13 and note the directory listed in the Location column.

5.     Navigate to the folder C:/Datalogic/IMPACT/AIT/EmbeddedCPM/jre/lib

6.     Copy the folder named "endorsed" from the Datalogic folder to the folder that contains the JRE you located in step 4.

WARNING: Beginning with Impact version 8.3, AIT installs a JRE that uses JacORB instead of the standard Sun ORB. If you subsequently install another "standard" JRE, and make it the default JRE, Impact Control Panels that run inside CPMREApplet in a browser or a browser ActiveX control will not be able to communicate with Datalogic devices.

Deploying an Impact Operator Interface using Visual Basic
At the core of AIT is Embedded CPM which enables users to create control panels using Impact Control Panel Manager (CPM), then embed the control panels into Visual Basic applications. You can develop your applications using VB.NET or VB6, but we recommend using VB.NET.

Transferring data between Impact and Visual Basic applications
There are two technologies for transferring large or small amounts of data between Impact and Visual Basic applications — Impact HTTP Client and TCP/IP.

Impact HTTP Client
The initial technology for transferring data between Impact and a Visual Basic 6.0 application is Impact HTTP Client. Impact HTTP Client works in partnership with an Impact HTTP Server included in some Datalogic vision device models. Conceptually this technique is similar to executing “get data” and “set data” functions (CPM functions) initiated from a Visual Basic application. No modifications are required in the Impact vision task.

TCP/IP Data Exchange
An alternative technology for transferring data between Impact and a Visual Basic application is TCP/IP Data Exchange. This technique uses TCP/IP Ethernet tools (included with some Datalogic vision device models). It is typically used when real-time data exchange is required every time the vision task is executed. A Visual Basic application can be programmed to listen for TCP/IP events, then receive data from the Datalogic device each time the Impact inspection task is executed.

Transferring files between Impact and VisualBasic6.0applications

Impact FTP Client
Impact FTP Client is used for transferring files between Impact and a Visual Basic application. Impact FTP Client works in partnership with an Impact FTP Server included in some Datalogic vision device models.
